Kangaroos and Camels and Rheas

How a rhea drinks

Ballistically

Splash, catch, repeat

This rhea has a complete cataract in one eye. Apparently, she also likes to be hugged. Really. I spent a while watching her drink. She splashes her beak into the water, and throws globules into the air. Then she catches them in her mouth. Birds have a one-direction air flow in their lungs, so they can’t suck. If you have a long neck, that means embarrassing gubbling, or aquatic ballistics.
