Can you guess what we’re having for dinner?

Just add flame. And buns. Flame, buns, mushrooms and onions. Amongst our weapons are flame, buns, mushrooms and a fanatical devotion to cholesterol…

The builders have arrived

These had been carefully constructed on our curtains. They are made of mud. I suspect wasps.

The River Rises

A confluence of spring tides, Cyclone Oswald and a dam release from Wivenhoe has brought the Brisbane River level up over 2m at Indooroopilly.

Our downhill neighbours are clearing out their ground floor as they prepare for their second flooding in two years.

I’ve been helping Neighbour With Chainsaw to shift some trees brought down by the storm-force winds.

We’re unlikely to get power back before this evening, and are planning for a longer outage.

This is what the river and creek look like at four megalitres a second on a high tide.

The Creek is Rising

Our tiny little creek has turned into a raging torrent. It’s up over a meter.

The rain is still falling in sheets. We’ve had around 200mm in the last 24 hours. Some places have had almost 500mm. That’s half a meter of water.

Cyclone Oswald

image

The remnants of Cyclone Oswald are bringing us 40 knot winds, torrential rain and a tornado warning.

I’m not really sure how one is supposed to prepare for a tornado. We don’t have a cellar, and the house is constructed from light timber, corrugated metal and glass.

In the face of an incoming tornado, the only thing I can think of its to place your head between your legs and kiss your arse goodbye.

Here’s a moist noisy miner.
